Subscription End Dates for Recurring Donations#3

As a donor, I want to schedule an end date for my subscription so that I can give for a set period of time and then stop at the specified end date.

“I am trying to use the classic donation form template.

The goal is to have a Recurring Donation option with donors having the option to select the frequency (weekly, monthly, ….) and also the Duration (Ongoing, 1 month, 2 month….)

The issue that we are having is that, on our website, frequency can be selected from dropdown menus, but we always get a fixed duration option on the website, either Ongoing or the specific one selected as default when configuring the form.

Some people want to donate continuously, while others want to donate a specific amount over a certain period of time.

We would like for donor’ to have the option to select both the frequency and duration while making their commitment.

After reviewing this, we’ve concluded that we will not be able to provide the same options across all payment gateways. We’re considering providing more flexible subscription management for gateways that support them, like Stripe.

We’re updating the status of this post from Under Review to Open until we have more concrete plans to share.

Is there a setting in the Recurring Donation Plugin to allow users to schedule the day they want their donation drafted?

Can the donor select the recurring date from the donor form?

Customer call with Zayd (zkhaial@macnet.ca) His organization has a need for folks to choose their own end date, rather than offering multiple different options for them. The forms get too bulky when offering many different donation levels and periods of donation.

Abdullah: Good question. They are similar feature requests but this one involves the donor selecting a specific end date for their subscription while the linked feedback involves the donor choosing a specific number of donations that should occur before the subscription ends.

As a Muslim organization, our donation activities peak during special periods such as Ramadan and the ten days leading up to Eid, when rewards for charitable acts are believed to be multiplied. Our clients frequently request the ability to automate their donations specifically during these times.

Currently, our Give plugin does not support user-selected start and end dates for recurring donations, a feature highly sought after by our community—as noted in the feedback on the ticket link provided.

Could we explore possible solutions? Ideally, we would enable users to set both start and end dates for their donations. If this isn’t feasible, alternatives could include setting a delay for the start of recurring donations or allowing users to specify the number of occurrences for their donations. At present, only admins have the capability to set the recurrence from 1 to 90 or ongoing.

I echoed the comments published here. Our donors also would love the specify the end date for recurring donations. Aside with certain religious period that they want to multiply their reward in the afterlife, most are not really tech savvy, so they want to set it and done with it. It is a communication nightmare for us to tell them to login to their dashboard and cancel their subscriptions. We want donor to choose if they want an ongoing donation or end it after a period of time.
