Donation amount shouldn't be required when purchasing tickets.#27

In the form builder, it won’t let me save a donation form without a Donation Amount field included.

Ideally, there should be an option where the Event Ticket price is the donation fee. Right now, then the Event Ticket price has to be free in my case, and the Donation Amount is the Ticket price.

“Is it possible to not have the donation block? I want this form to be event tickets only. Please tell me there’s a way to remove the additional donation block.”

feels like it is taking an eternity to get this fixed. We posted this request a year ago and still waiting. last year’s work-around no longer works so we needed to make a new work-around this year. it is awkward.

Hi folks! Thanks for trying our new Event Tickets feature. Here’s where we currently stand on this request:

GiveWP forms were built to focus on donations. Since this feature is currently in Beta, we built it to be used in combination with the existing donation form requirements. So, the Donation Amount block is still required. This allows you to sell (or give away) event tickets while also accepting a donation, but it doesn’t allow for optional donations.

We’ve received so much valuable feedback stating the need for optional donations! We plan to give you a way to use the Event Ticket block without requiring a donation. However, that will take a significant change to our structure, since everything currently centers around donations. It will take time to do it right and deliver this feature without disrupting other forms or other GiveWP functionality.

Thanks for your patience while we work on this. There’s no ETA yet, but you’ll get updates on this post as soon as we have something new to share.

Hi all, just some feedback from our experience using the Event Tickets feature for a while. We were very excited to try it once it became available last year as we do the odd fundraising events that require tickets to be sold.

Sadly, as you know, you currently need to give some sort of donation (mandatory) and then you can buy tickets for the event, which always felt a little off (the process).

What we are currently doing is setting up the form with a single fixed donation amount (user can’t change this), this is then a single ticket. Below that we’ll then have a tickets block where people can purchase additional tickets. Some people also request to give an additional donation while registering, so we tell them to just add additional tickets which then goes towards their donation.

In a perfect world this is how we would want the form/process to work: the user enters their name and contact details (and complete any other custom fields we added) and then selects the number of tickets they need (1 to X quantity). Below that there can then be the “additional donation” buttons e.g. $10, $20, $50 or Custom Amount - if they want to give a random amount extra.

This would really make this feature amazing to use! We do however appreciate what you guys have done so far and the intricacies of changing the backend to accommodate these changes. And the fact that you are adding a mini events booking module to this plugin.

We don’t like using other events plugins that process tickets through WooCommerce. They typically require users to register on a custom registration screen, then add tickets to their cart, then re-enter their billing details in the WooCommerce Checkout screen and then receive the ticket via the email notification (which is not really optimised for events). Some are also crazy expensive!

Anyway, just wanted to share some ideas, keep up the good work!

It has been over a year and this is still not fixed. It makes zero sense to sell a ticket to a fundraising event and then ask them to donate more on top of the ticket cost. My only work around (albeit a little tacky) is to add gratuity for the server as our event includes food and drinks and the non-profit still has to tip the servers. I did a minimum 10% per ticket so hopefully people wont think this is in really poor taste to ask them to help us cover the tip we will have to pay at the end of the night. With all the developers that work on this plugin, you’d think someone would know how to change this so it functions!

“I want to sell tickets for a charity event, but it appears that I have to make a donation on the same form. If I remove the donation from the form, it doesn’t work, but it also doesn’t let me remove the mandatory donation requirement.”

“I am trying to offer a donor the opportunity to donate a custom amount other than what is offered for ticket prices. However I do not want to make it a requirements for the user to have to add a custom amount if they are purchasing tickets. Right now the form requires you to add a custom amount and there is no option to turn the required star off.”
